PRYDE Graduate Student Awards

Cornell graduate students who are pursuing research projects in partnership with 4-H Youth Development Programs are invited to apply for PRYDE funding to support their research. Specifically, funding is open to students whose dissertation work is focused on youth or youth development.

Funding: $1,500 maximum

Eligibility: Cornell graduate students in any discipline conducting a youth-focused research study with 4-H as part of their dissertation work. Proposed work needs to be approved by the student’s committee in order to be considered for funding.

Materials: A description of the proposed study (1-2 pages max), a letter of support from your committee chair, and a budget.

  • Proposed Study Description:

    • A description of the research question and methodology.

    • A description of how this project fits in your dissertation work.

    • An explanation of your partnership with 4-H (e.g., Are you already connected to partners in 4-H? Have you begun recruitment?)

  • Letter of support from Committee Chair:

    • Letter simply needs to verify that the proposed study has been approved by the student’s committee. (This is not a letter of recommendation.)

  • Budget write up should include:

    • Itemized estimated costs of research project (Allowable costs include travel, participant incentives, partner incentives, materials; Unallowable costs are graduate student or staff salary)

    • A brief explanation of costs

Deadlines: Rolling submissions are reviewed on an ad hoc basis. For funding to be available for summer data collection, we advise submitting by May 15. For fall, we advise submitting by July 30.

Deliverables: PRYDE requires funding recipients to share their research experience through a reflective writing piece for the PRYDE blog. We also require recipients to report their findings back to their 4-H partners with some type of report or dissemination product, and we ask that students share this product with PRYDE.

Submissions: Email materials to pryde@cornell.edu with the subject line “PRYDE Graduate Student Award.”
