Educators and volunteers are on the front lines of 4-H. They interact directly with youth and bring 4-H to life by enacting and teaching its mission, vision, and values. Thus, understanding 4-H leaders’ beliefs can provide important information on how program leaders strive to promote their 4-H ideals through their programs. This newsletter introduces a study that provides insight into how 4-H leaders think about youth purpose development within 4-H programs. Researchers conducted several focus groups across counties in New York to converse with 4-H leaders on their thoughts regarding purpose in life and if they believed 4-H helps build youth purpose. Analysis seems to show that leaders think 4-H promotes purpose development in youth through exposure to new and diverse experiences made available through the variety of resources within 4-H.
